The Sleeping Beauties and other Stories of Mystery Illness, calls for more understanding and compassion for the worrying condition.
She believes that rather than suffering from a biological disease, the children â all primary school-age girls living in Sweden â may be affected by a kind of psychosomatic illness described as âresignation-syndromeâ.

Gout is the most common form of inflammatory arthritis in adults.1 Gout prevalence is rising in the last few decades worldwide with an estimated prevalence of 3.9 per cent in the United States,2 0.9 – 2.4 per cent in Europe,3,4 and even higher in regions such as East Asia, wherein a country like Taiwan, 1 in 16 people has gout.5
