(Representative image) COIMBATORE: A village panchayat president from Pudukkottai district and his associate were arrested by the city crime branch police for cheating the chairman of a Coimbatore-based private hospital of Rs 2.85 crore. Dr K Madheswaran, chairman, Royal Care Hospital, Coimbatore, lodged a complaint with city crime branch police inspector A Ravi on June 23. In his complaint, Dr K Madheswaran said he was introduced to N Panneerselvam, 58, a panchayat president of Pachikottai village in Pudukkottai district, by his friend Balasubramaniam, who owns a school, on October 3, 2020. “I requested Panneerselvam to arrange a loan of Rs 50 crore to expand my hospital. But Panneerselvam promised me that he would arrange to get Rs 100 crore and demanded Rs 2 crore as commission and Rs 85 lakh for document,” Dr Madheswaran said.

Active cases dips to 4,676, recovery rate up in dist | Coimbatore News

The recovery rate has improved to 96.9% with 2,12,285 of the 2,18,990 people, who have tested positive for the virus till date, recovering from the infection in the district. COIMBATORE: The district recorded 563 fresh cases of Covid-19 on Tuesday, even as 986 patients were discharged from various treatment centres, bringing the active cases down to 4,676. The recovery rate has improved to 96.9% with 2,12,285 of the 2,18,990 people, who have tested positive for the virus till date, recovering from the infection in the district. The Covid-19 toll, however, shot up to 2,029 with the state including 12 more fatalities that occurred in the district in the bulletin. While doctors advise even the vaccinated people to take all Covid-19 precautions like wearing masks, social distancing and frequent hand washing to prevent another wave, they have warned against overdoing of some measures like inhaling steam and consumption of vitamin C.
