Rotorua Daily Post Christmas Appeal: Record number of families to benefit

Rotorua Salvation Army Christmas food parcels. You should be proud of yourselves.
That is the message from Salvation Army corps officers Kylie and Ralph Overbye after an overwhelmingly successful Rotorua Daily Post Christmas Appeal that will give a record number of families a helping hand.
A final tally will be announced next week, after last-minute donations have been received, but this year s appeal has already received a record $57,365.80 in cash and food.
These donations will help more than 300 families enjoy the relief of receiving a Christmas food parcel from the Salvation Army in the coming days.

The Salvation Army s annual Fill the Bus appeal.
The Rotorua Daily Post Christmas Appeal for the Salvation Army Foodbank wraps up on Saturday and in the last six weeks, there have been endless highlights.
Since the appeal launched on November 7, donations have rolled in from every corner of Rotorua.
Reporter David Beck looks at some of the highlights.
Week One: November 7-15
The first week of the Rotorua Daily Post Christmas Appeal saw local medical centres put their hands up to back the cause.

Ranolf Medical Centre opted to Fill the Caravan as a show of support. The caravan in question was loaned to the medical centre by the Salvation Army during lockdown, giving them a place to safely administer flu shots.

And just like that, another Rotorua Daily Post Christmas Appeal is almost over. But what an amazing appeal it has been.
It has been humbling and overwhelming to see the community s generosity this year, especially considering all we ve been through collectively in 2020.

The generosity of the Rotorua community this festive season cannot be understated.
At the start of November the Rotorua Daily Post launched its annual Christmas Appeal for the Salvation Army Foodbank and people, organisations and businesses leapt to get behind the cause.
One of those businesses was Hume Pine which collected an impressive 216 items to donate to the appeal, including non-perishables, toiletries and other gifts.
Sales office manager Donna McCauley said staff were asked to donate whatever they could manage and they were all enthusiastic about getting behind the cause.

It was clearly going to be a busy day at Zorb Rotorua on Sunday when queues started lining the path before the doors even opened.
Zorb Rotorua s annual locals day has been held since at least 2016 and is a key contributor to the Rotorua Daily Post Christmas Appeal.
