Like many a publishing person, my winter reading is dominated by design PDFs, printer proofs and advances of forthcoming titles. Watching a book blossom as it travels from manuscript to page to print never loses its thrill. One set of proofs that have been gladdening our hearts during the voyage to publication is
Blimmin’ Koro / Kātahi rā, e Koro e!. Jill Bevan-Brown’s bilingual picture book tells of a whānau’s love for their ‘blimmin’ Koro’ as he develops dementia, with lovely illustrations by Christchurch artist Trish Bowles.

Some of Māoridom’s leading wordsmiths will share their stories and insights at the Auckland Writers Festival.
Waituhi o Tāmaki director Ann O’Brien says the festival is particularly honoured to feature novelist Patricia Grace, who has just published a memoir.
Other highlights will include Ross Calman discussing in te reo Māori his translation of a 19th century biography of Ngāti Toa Rangatira leader Te Rauparaha, with simultaneous translations and a musical accompaniment from Ariana Tikao;
- several performances of Witi’s Women, a dramatisation of the characters in Witi Ihimaera’s novel;
