Proposals to demolish Debenhams building in Taunton town centre

PROPOSALS have been unveiled to demolish Taunton s biggest shop to make way for up to 92 apartments. A planning application has been lodged with Somerset West and Taunton Council to knock down the Debenhams store in 19 to 26 North Street. The application on behalf of Ropemaker Properties says the plans are a contingency approach to the site should the existing occupiers vacate . Debenhams is currently in administration and unless a buyer can be found will close by March. A range of options has been considered for the building, which front onto North Street and looks over Goodland Gardens, including redeveloping the existing premises.

Cleland McIver expands footprint at Kingsway Business Park Date published: 12 December 2020 The new unit which has been occupied by Cleland McIver Textile manufacturer Cleland McIver has expanded its facilities at Kingsway Business Park after acquiring a new industrial unit. A 10 year lease for the newly-built 75,131 sq ft facility has been agreed. This deal takes Cleland McIver’s total occupancy at the park to 115,000 sq ft following its purchase of the adjacent unit in 2017. Thales and Nobilia Kitchens are also located on the same plot of the business park. Kingsway Business Park is one of the premier business parks in the North West and has delivered over 2m sq ft of warehouse space. Existing occupiers at the park include Asda, Wincanton, JD Sports, Dachser and the future development of additional amenities are planned for the park.
