US officials have confirmed to BC RCMP the man police were searching for near the Roosville border crossing has been taken into custody.
Just before 4 p.m. this afternoon, US officials confirmed that the man they and the RCMP were searching for has been arrested and is in custody south of the border.
A number of RCMP officers, who were deployed to the area to support the on-going search are now in the processes of demobilizing, as such area residents may note increased police vehicle traffic as they return to their respective areas.

BC RCMP this afternoon reports that additional RCMP resources have been deployed into the Elk Valley for a situation unfolding in the United States, involving an individual who authorities believe has crossed the border illegally.

A potentially high-risk situation developed in southeast British Columbia this afternoon, involving a possible illegal border crossing.
At 12:20 p.m. B.C. RCMP stated that RCMP were deployed in the Elk Valley region in B.C. after U.S. authorities believed that a man possibly crossed the border illegally into Canada.
At the time, police believed the man to be distraught and could have been carrying a firearm or other weapons.
At 5 p.m., RCMP stated that U.S. officials confirmed that U.S. police located the male suspect near the Roosville, B.C., border crossing (north of Montana) just before 4 p.m. and took him into custody in the U.S.
