New York has yet to issue guidance on masking in schools this fall, and parents and school districts are getting conflicting advice from national medical sources about the safest course of action for students.
But New York has yet to issue formal guidance regarding masking in schools this fall, leaving school districts without clarity on whether they will be mandated when students return.
On Thursday, the state Department of Health signaled it had not yet made a decision.
“New York State continues to review the new CDC guidance and daily data outcomes, communicate with education stakeholders across the state and will ultimately make our recommendations for the fall based on what is in the best interest of public health, particularly when it comes to children, DOH spokesperson Abigail Barker said in a statement.
