Garvin the rotary club of san jose has met 5,025 different times in its 100year history. The agenda, though, is always the same, service to the community. This story, though, is about how the clubs grandest effort ever has, at its root, a very personal moment, the birth 17 years ago of julie matsushimas first grandchildren, twin girls. Julie chloe was born first. And they came out and showed us her, and she was, you know, screaming like newborns do. And then the nurse came out with amy and ran right across the hall into the neonatal unit. Garvin the doctor told julie amy had brain damage so severe, her lifespan would likely be measured in days. Im jim axelrod. We begin tonight in france with a story that sound like something out of a hollywood thriller that stars three very well american heroes. One is an air force airman, another an Army National guards man and a third is a pal from california they were traveling with on a train from anthony amm to paris. Thats when the three americans jumped into action. Charlie dagata picks up the story. Reporter video that appears to be shot inside the train shows the suspect face down and tied up. You can see a rifle he was carrying and one of the american men who brought him down after seeing a french passenger first confront the gunman, 22yearold National Guardsman Alek Skarlatos and his two friends moved in. Reporter a funeral was held today for 15yearold jordan edwards at the mesquite Friendship Baptist church. His grieving family asked for a pause in protest over his death. We need time to exhale, the family said in a statement, to allow jordans death to be our own loss before we share this loss with the world. On friday the Dallas County Sheriffs Department arrested and charged roy oliver with the boys murder. He was a sixyear veteran of the Balch Springs police force. Im saying after reviewing the video that i dont believe that reporter oliver fired a rifle into the back of a vehicle. Edwards was struck in the
