NSW says it will begin accepting international students within months with a program that excludes the Federal Government and will likely be paid for by the university sector.
The proposal has been accepted by the NSW Premier and will allow students to quarantine in purpose-built housing in Sydney.
The NSW State Treasurer Dominic Perrottet said he supported the program and promised it would not take spaces away from Australians returning to the country.
International students have been approved to return to NSW as soon as August as part of a new plan pushed by the state’s university sector.

A new survey shows the majority of international students are willing to get vaccinated and quarantine in order to return to in-person study in Australia.
It found that 43% said they would be willing to begin their studies online as long as there was a pathway to transition to face-to-face learning.
It comes as more evidence shows Australia’s international students are moving to the UK and other countries with more advanced vaccine rollouts.
A new report surveying international student’s highlights the losses from Australia’s closed borders on the sector, as students hammer home the importance of in-person learning on their decision-making.
