Highlights of Swindon’s Festival of Tomorrow will be made available on demand. The team behind the annual science festival received a number of requests from people keen to watch shows and talks after its week of events had finished. The first show to be released is an in-depth look at how UK research is leading the fight against coronavirus, with a panel of leading experts. Others to follow include the European Space Agency and a panel of researchers sharing how satellites help tackle climate change. Festival director Rod Hebden said: “We’ve been absolutely overwhelmed by the positive response from visitors to this year’s festival.

Members of the public are being asked to post their own photos of everyday life to help challenge negative stereotypes of ageing and biased social media algorithms, as part of the town s online Festival of Tomorrow. The initiative marks the launch of an on-going research project between the festival, the Centre for Digital Citizens, and UK Research and Innovation. It aims to gather data to help explore the concept of an Ageless Citizen and the relationship between technology and bias or stereotypes around age. Search engines and stock photo libraries often use unrealistically positive or negative depictions of people in later life which help spread harmful stereotypes of ageing and older age.
