Stories about how Timuel Black generously lent his time and talents filled the evening, with remarks spanning from his love of Black Chicago to how he turned the city into his classroom, from his dislike of vacations to his belief in doing “the right thing to do.”
The three-hour memorial opened with African drums and dance. More than two dozen people shared stories about the impact Black had on them and on Chicago, and there were several performances of jazz, which Black loved.
