History of the National Parks. Charles pinckney, sometimes known as the forgotten founder, was a South Carolina delegate to the Constitutional Convention in philadelphia in 1787. Charles was four times the governor of South Carolina, an ambassador to spain. In the legislature, in congress in washington. He spent his entire life in public service. But the National Significance of charles was his contributions as the convention at the Constitutional Convention. He presented a complete plan of government, called the company draft. Draft. Pinckney you have to get through it in a backwards way he goes there are no surviving copies. He presented it on the third day of the convention. Is through the others notes that you find the details in that plan. What is interesting is that james madison, who we think of as the father of the constitution, who had copious mention thees not is one ofraft, which the reasons he is a forgotten founder. The full military honors ceremony is for two civil war sailors that went down the uss monitor ironclad and in 1862 storm up the coast of cape hatteras, north carolina. The remains of the sailors were recovered by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the u. S. Navy in 2002. In this american artifacts, we will observe the ceremony and learn the history of the monitor and the efforts to identify the remains of the recovered sailors. We spoke after the burial with david alberg, superintendent of the monitor National Marine sanctuary. Mr. Alberg im responsible for the daily management and protection and longrange preservation of the shipwreck that was 16 miles off of cape hatteras, north carolina. As well as the artifacts. Senate special aging committee. This is an hour and a half. Good afternoon. It is my great pleasure to call to order the very first hearing of the Senate Special committee on aging. In the 114th congress i have had the honor of being a member of this committee since my very first days in the United States senate and i am delighted to now assume the chairmanship. This is the first time that a maine senator has chaired the committee since the mid1990s when my predecessor and good friend senator bill cohen for whom i worked for 12 years served as the committees chair. Im also pleased to welcome new and returning members to this committee and onto about delighted that my good friend and colleague senator Claire Mccaskill of missouri will service the committees Ranking Member.
