HOUSTON – It is a historic day in Houston and in the fight against coronavirus.
The first hospital workers in our area finally have what they need to begin fighting back against the coronavirus that’s been killing people in our community since early this year.
Memorial Hermann COVID ICU nurse, Robert Luckey, said he’s been caring for COVID-19 patients, even being their comfort while isolated from family and all while worrying about his own family at home since the beginning of the pandemic.
Trump administration is negotiating deal with Pfizer to produce tens of millions more vaccine doses next year - as current order will cover just 16 per cent of the population
Pfizer currently has a deal to provide the US with 100 million does of its COVID-19 vaccine by next March
That is not enough to vaccinate a substantial proportion of the population and there are fears of an impending shortage
The Trump Administration is now negotiating a new contract with the pharmaceutical giant to produce more doses between April and June next year
It comes as the US death toll from the coronavirus passed a staggering 300,000 on Monday; infections and hospitalizations are surging around the country

The first Houstonians have gotten the Covid-19 vaccine. The first shipment of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine rolled into the Bayou City Monday at M.D. Anderson, with more hospitals in the area receiving their own shipments Tuesday.
In a Monday press conference, Mayor Sylvester Turner encouraged hospitals to not wait to dole out the vaccine, but to immediately start immunizing their health care workers, who are the first to receive it, according to the allocation tier system. And Houstonâs hospitals did not miss their shot.Â
