Self-injury support group finds NJ home to spread its message

Vicki Duffy wears her forearm scars like badges of courage. She reveals them to anyone who fears there is no escape from the horror of self-harm. The scars show a history of cutting, burning of flesh and other forms of self-injury. Without these, there s not a story that can be seen, Duffy said. This is a story that people can look at and say What did you do there? Nearly 20 years after she embarked on a mission to help others avoid her own destructive cycle, Duffy finally has a home for her nonprofit group, Love More Judge Less. In the cozy storefront on Main Street in Boonton, her group can meet, find support and reach out to others who self-injure and need their help.

Integration at VSU - The Spectator

Integration at VSU 1,054 Views In the spring of 1963, Drewnell Thomas and Robert Pierce Jr. walked across a stage to receive their high school diplomas from Valdosta’s all-Black Pinevale High School. Then they walked right into the history books. Thomas and Pierce both graduated with honors from Pinevale, but another academic achievement managed to outshine that one: Thomas and Pierce were the first Black students to attend VSU, then Valdosta State College. Pinevale High closed its doors for the final time in 1972, but the impact its two 1963 graduates had on the VSU community lives on today. Though the U.S. Supreme Court decided in the landmark 1954 case Brown v. Board of education that “separate facilities” in public education are “inherently unequal,” much of the southern U.S. saw vestiges of a racist system remain in place into the next decade.  But then-University President Dr. J. Ralph Thaxton had other plans for VSU.

A Spectator guide to Trump Impeachment No. 2

A Spectator guide to Trump Impeachment No. 2 February 13, 2021 782 Views As the nation looks on, the United States Senate is in the midst of an unprecedented second impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump. The trial in the Senate began on Wednesday, Feb. 10, and has continued through the week. Democrat Senators, led by Democrat Congressman Joaquin Castro of Texas, spent the opening day of the trial presenting evidence that they argue ties the former president’s Jan. 6 speech to a riot that saw a large, violent mob break into the US Capitol building. Highlighting the language used by Trump during the speech, impeachment managers argued that Trump is responsible for the violence that ensued during the riot that took the lives of five people, including two Capitol police officers.
