Cornwell said that state prisons are home to many who met the age requirements early on. They ve got a lot of (older) inmates in the system, he said.
County jails, where the stay can range from 24 hours to a year, are temporary homes to older inmates, but the vaccine wasn t made available to that older locked-up population. If they are eligible when they are not in our custody, they should be eligible when they are in our custody, Cornwell said.
He said the association is working, with the cooperation of the Ohio Department of Health and the governor s office to provide (the vaccines) more directly to inmates at all of the jails throughout the state.
