CADILLAC â For many teenagers (and adults, for that matter), there are few things quite as satisfying as destroying a wall with a sledgehammer, although usually such an activity is met with some manner of harsh rebuke.
For the kids in the Never Down For The Count boxing club, it s a necessary activity, and one they ll be doing repeatedly over the course of 2021.
Coach Dana Wilson said the kids so far have disassembled about 10% of a decommissioned charter school in Hart that they were given as a source of raw materials for their proposed youth center in Cadillac.
Wilson runs the boxing gym in Cadillac for at-risk youth and has been attempting to get the youth center off the ground for several years. He purchased an empty factory on River Street and had plans to turn the facility into the youth center, although raising money toward the project has been an ongoing challenge.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. â Meijer s Alpine store location has teamed up with a local nonprofit to help the homeless in the Grand Rapids area.
The store donated $900 to Exodus Place, a transitional housing program helping homeless men get back to living independently.
âWeâre very grateful to be partnering with Meijer in this effort,â says Robb Munger, president & CEO of Exodus Place. âTheir generosity will make a huge impact on people in need in the community.â
The organization used the funds to purchase clothing items.
CADILLAC â From a motel, bowling alley and golf ball driving range to storage units â a lot has happened to the former Bill Oliverâs Resort property in Cadillac West over the last 10 years.
In July, downstate developer and owner of several other properties in Cadillac, Robb Munger, purchased property to the east of Cherry Grove Event Center off M-55.
For years, the property was home to Bill Oliverâs, a Cadillac area mainstay, before being sold and resold again as Cadillac Woods, Best Value and Rodeway Inn. In 2013, Rick Cushman Sr. purchased the property and demolished a portion of it, leaving only the conference center, which was renamed the Cherry Grove Event Center.

The camp has a little Christmas tree decorated right in front of the temporary homes.
Exodus Place President Robb Munger says he has never seen camping at the park before and blames it on the COVID-19 pandemic overwhelming the services for the community.
Grand Rapids Police say the camp started about a month and a half ago.
On Friday, there were over 42 tents.
