Ontario Tech university associate professor Vivian Stamatopoulos said on April 1, an updated directive came from the LTC ministry granting outdoor access to residents.
She said Ontario’s associate chief medical officer of health Barbara Yaffe indicated more would be forthcoming but nothing happened.
Stamatopoulos added that Ontario LTC minister Merrilee Fullerton is “nowhere to be found.
“None of this makes any sense,” she said. “The figures are pretty stable in LTC homes because of the vaccination rates and families are upset.”

Janice Codeluppi couldn’t hold back the tears as she spoke of the impact of personal support worker (PSW) shortages in her mom’s GTA long-term care (LTC) home in the past year.
She said in her mom’s unit, there are 32 beds with only two PSWs at a time to look after 12-16 residents.

As a result of the shortages, she said, her 87-year-old mom Joan Arbuckle fell in the night last December and “lay screaming for help for two hours.”

Encina Business Credit (EBC) promoted Tron Allen to Chief Commercial Officer. Allen most recently served as EBCâs Executive Managing Director and Central Region Leader. He joined the company in connection with its March 2016 launch as a Senior Managing Director focused on business development efforts in the Southwest Region. Prior thereto, Allen provided strategic advice to clients on capital structure alternatives as an investment banker at both BKD Corporate Finance and deloitte Corporate Finance.
