Mpumelelo Zikalala highlights that as it stands there have been no findings against Downer - and the allegations against him are just that: allegations.
The Pietermaritzburg High Court is on Thursday set to hear a second bid from Zuma aimed at having Downer, who’s leading the prosecution, removed from the case.
They were meant to face off for arguments in another application from Zuma to try and remove State Advocate Billy Downer from the case, but on Monday afternoon, the Office of the Chief Justice announced a change of plans.
Lead prosecutor Billy Downer, who Zuma is still trying to remove from the case, listed 13 separate court bids by the former president, complaints to the public protector, and appeals to the NPA amounting to nearly 20 years in delays and counting.
