A public records request filed by VPM News revealed efforts by Richmond’s Chief Administrative Officer Lincoln Saunders to change the findings of a 2020 audit that found Richmond’s recent school construction costs higher than Chesterfield County's and the state average.
The new building will come with a price tag of about $55 million. That cost is for a “starter school” that will accommodate about 1,000 students initially.
After weeks of contentious debate and deliberations, The Richmond School Board unanimously approved a smaller budget Monday night than the one proposed by the superintendent earlier this year.
