Derrick Dabney: Man arrested in Northside shooting that killed Ashley Wilbert

Detectives have arrested a man they say killed a woman near a park on Richmond s Northside last week. Officers were called to the 600 block of Wickham Street near Battery Park for a report of random gunfire just before 11:55 p.m. on Tuesday, April 6. When officers arrived, they found Ashley Wilbert, a woman in her 20s, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, down and unresponsive in the alley, according to investigators. Police said Wilbert was pronounced dead at the scene.

( Images courtesy of One South Realty) A trend of modern-design residential infills is continuing in Richmond’s Northside, where a local developer is planning a cluster of new townhomes on the edge of the Highland Park Southern Tip enclave. Harsh Thakker Richmond-based Dorado Capital, led by developer Harsh Thakker, is planning a dozen modern townhomes on just over an acre at 2705 Fifth Ave. in the neighborhood, also known as the Chestnut Hill/Plateau Historic District.

A local nonprofit is taking ownership of a restaurant in Richmond s Northside with the goal of helping those in need. The restaurant is located on Chestnut Street and currently called Golden Mart Deli, but on March 1, The Village Against Violence plans to open it as The Village Bistro RVA. The nonprofit says they are leasing the restaurant to raise enough money to open a shelter for people experiencing homelessness.

Man charged with murder in homicide at Richmond hotel WTVR Posted at 1:42 PM, Jan 20, 2021 and last updated 2021-01-20 13:52:40-05 RICHMOND, Va. A man has been arrested in connection to a homicide at a hotel on Richmond s Northside last summer. On June 2, officers were called to the Rodeway Inn on N. Arthur Ashe Boulevard near I-95 for a report of a person shot just before 1:45 a.m. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Jermaine Stroman lying in a third floor hallway suffering from a gunshot wound. The 30-year-old Chester man was pronounced dead at the scene. Marquise McCormick was incarcerated in Chesterfield County on unrelated charges.

Richmond has dozens of murals across the city, including one of the first female Vice President of the United States Kamala Harris. Painted in October by local artists Michael-Birch Pierce and Nico Cathcar, the mural is located near Battery Park at North Ave and E. Lancaster on Richmond s Northside. The mural was painted ahead of the 2020 presidential election to inspire residents to vote. The collaboration is called the Kamala: I m speaking.
