‘A platform of empowerment’: 27th annual Crime Victims’ Vigil held Thursday night

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. The 27th annual Crime Victims’ Vigil was held virtually Thursday night, showcasing the strength and resilience of survivors as a part of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week.
The vigil, organized by Safe Horizon, the NYC Family Justice Center and the office of Richmond County District Attorney Michael E. McMahon, featured profound stories of survivors and honored the lives of those lost to crime on Staten Island.
“In America today, we often speak of criminal justice, juvenile justice and even community justice, yet we seldom hear about victim justice, which really must be at the very heart and soul if we are to have justice in our nation,” said McMahon at the onset of the vigil.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. District Attorney Michael E. McMahon honored victims of crimes during a ceremony at the Crime Victims’ Memorial Garden in St. George Monday morning.
The event, which took place outside the Richmond County District Attorney’s office, rededicated the space and kicked off National Crime Victims’ Rights week on Staten Island.
“Over the last year, victims of crime have undoubtedly been faced with many serious challenges and they continue to need our help and support,” said McMahon. “In my office, we renew our commitment to seeking justice on behalf of all victims of crime while ensuring that survivors of crime and their families receive the services and
