Sentence date fixed after man admits Old Town bar affray

A man who attacked another at an Old Town bar will learn his fate next month. Dean Cox, 34, had been due to stand trial at Swindon Crown Court this week on an allegation he caused actual bodily harm to a man in April 2019. He was said to have attacked the man at the King’s Arms, Wood Street, on April 25. Cox claimed he had acted in self-defence. After discussions between prosecutor Richard Tutt and Cox’s barrister, Susan Cavender, Cox, of Clover Park, pleaded guilty to affray. The plea was acceptable to the Crown, Mr Tutt said. Judge Jason Taylor QC told the defendant he would not receive an immediate prison sentence, adding he would decide whether to impose a community order or a suspended sentence at the next hearing.
