Diego Hernandez resigned from the Reynolds School Board on Wednesday, March 10, after stepping down last month from the Oregon House of Representatives amid controversy.
Board Chair Valerie Tewksbury announced at the March 10 school board meeting that the board received today a formal resignation from Director Hernandez.
Hernandez resigned from his position in the Oregon House of Representatives on Feb. 21, after an investigation found that he had created a hostile workplace in the Legislature for women.

On the heels of his resignation from the Oregon House of Representatives under a cloud of sexual harrassment complaints, Diego Hernandez should also resign from the Reynolds School Board.
Rep. Diego Hernandez avoided expulsion from the Oregon House in February by resigning in the aftermath of multiple violations of legislative rules against sexual harassment and creating a hostile work environment.
Now, Hernandez faces another decision, whether he should continue to serve in an elected capacity on the Reynolds School Board. That group has tentatively scheduled a discussion and vote on March 10 on a resolution where it might ask Hernandez to step down voluntarily.
Portland Public Schools:
In the latest update from the school board, it said that it has expanded in-person learning opportunities but has not yet started hybrid learning for all K-5 students as it had intended.
In January, PPS chief of schools Dr. Shawn Bird spoke on the moves PPS was making to try and make hybrid learning possible. It hopes to begin the transition in April.
“School administrators have been identifying the students that are eligible, and they’re reaching out to families individually, making sure that families understand this is optional and we want to make sure they feel safe,” he said.

The political group East County Rising has called for state Rep. Diego Hernandez to quit the legislature amid allegations of sexual harassment. We are calling on Rep. Hernandez to resign, as we do not believe he can adequately maintain his duties as an elected official, the group said in an email on Monday, Feb. 8.
A legislative committee voted Friday, Feb. 5, to recommend the expulsion of Hernandez (D-47) from the Oregon House on multiple violations of a rule barring sexual harassment. As of Monday morning, an expulsion vote had not yet been scheduled.
