TACA expanding Pop-Up Grant program with Artist Bonus funds

The Arts Community Alliance has announced an expansion of its Pop-Up Grant program to include Artist Bonus funds, a new source of funding for individual artists, providing them financial support while the arts continue to feel the impact of the pandemic, while extending the program through 2021.
The addition of the artist bonus funding is made possible by a $180,000 gift from the March Family Foundation.
The Pop-Up Grant program debuted in August 2020 as part of the new TACA Resiliency Initiative, and TACA has distributed Pop-Up Grants since then as small, unrestricted disbursements to arts organizations demonstrating quality short-term programming, exceptional creativity and innovation. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced the Michigan COVID Recovery Plan addressing vaccine distribution, support for small businesses, food and rental assistance, schools and more.
Whitmer said that the MEDC will provide $225 million to fund an additional three programs that will support small businesses as a part of the Michigan COVID Recovery Plan.
The Michigan Mainstreet Initiative will provide grants to restaurants and other place-based small businesses. The Michigan Microenterprise Support Initiative will support businesses with less than nine employees that have struggled during the pandemic. The Business Accelerator and Resiliency Initiative will provide grants to high-tech startups.

Gov. Whitmer announces plan to end pandemic, grow the economy During a press conference Tuesday afternoon, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced the state’s COVID recovery plan to grow the economy and help end the pandemic.
The plan includes a focus on vaccine distribution, economic recovery, and ways to get students back on track.
“To help grow and strengthen our economy, we must provide crucial support for our families, small businesses, and frontline workers,” said Governor Whitmer. “The MI COVID Recovery Plan will help small businesses get through the winter, help us put more shots in arms and ramp up vaccine distribution, and get our kids back on track in school. It’s the right thing to do to protect public health and jumpstart our economy, and I’m ready to work with the legislature to get it done.”
