Chief among them the Housing Department is asking for a cap on annual rent increases by tying it to inflation which is years past is no more than 2. 8 a year. Right now the law allows landlords to raise rent 8 a year and rent control would affect a third of apartments in san jose. 11 people on the council and everyone has some proposal. Some want to compromise and cap it at 5 or 6 , others want an antiretaliation ordinance that would allow tenants to report Code Violations without getting evicted. If a landlord pushes a tenant out for some reason for a higher paying tenth, they want consequences. If you are looking at getting your own one bedroom place, good luck trying to find something under 1,200 in the area especially if you are talking a decent area and if you want to be somewhere close to work and you work in sillicon valley.
