Victoria now has 29 active cases of the virus. There were 18,337 Covid-19 tests completed across Friday. Victoria closed its border to all of NSW from 11.59pm on Friday (local time), with the whole state becoming a “red zone”, meaning residents can not enter Victoria and will not be allowed to enter hotel quarantine unless they have exceptional circumstances. The situation applies to people travelling from regional NSW. Those who have been to Greater Sydney, Wollongong and the Blue Mountains had already been barred from entering Victoria.
This time around it seems to have leaked out of hotel quarantine in NSW into the northern beaches, into the Croydon community and now down to Melbourne, he said. At [this] time of the year, where we have maximum movement of people across our communities, it couldn t be a worse time, frankly, but we don t get to pick these things in a global pandemic.
All of those 10 new cases in Victoria were connected to the Black Rock cluster, meaning there were no new cases with an unknown origin, he said.
Mr Foley said two of the 10 new local cases were announced by NSW on Friday and those people were now back in Melbourne completely appropriately and they are isolating here .
