Having committed to a 42 per cent Aboriginal employment target, contractors will design, construct and install the housing while residents have had input into the types of housing in their communities through the Local Decision Making process.
The houses, which are modular designs, provide an alternative to on-site construction and offer flexibility in delivery and ongoing transportability.
More than 130 homes funded by a previous $68 million investment in this model of housing are now rolling out to 24 remote communities across the NT.
The project is funded under the HomeBuild program as part of the Territory Labor Government’s $1.1 billion Remote Housing Package – Our Communities. Our Future. Our Homes. The Australian Government committed a $550 million co-contribution towards the program in 2019.
