Nearly 1,700 academic, cultural and political figures in Poland have issued an Appeal for Truth and Respect in Remembering John Paul II , in light of recent accusations that the late Polish pope shielded prominent Catholic prelates who sexually abused minors.
The text has been circulating for several days in Poland. It has been disseminated in Italy by the conservative Catholic news agency ACI-Stampa and its English affiliate Catholic News Agency (CNA).
