GILGIT: Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly Deputy Speaker Nazir Ahmed Advocate on Monday constituted a five-member parliamentary committee to investigate alleged illegal appointments being made in the region’s departments despite a ban.
Nazir Ahmed, who was presiding over a session of the assembly’s ongoing pre-budget sitting, told the house that they could not remain silent on the revelations made by adviser on food Shamasul Haq Lone.
Ministers Fatullah Khan, Kazim Masum, Wazeer Saleem and opposition members Haji Rehmat Khaliq and Shahzad Agha are members of the committee, which will present its report in the house within two weeks.

The Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly unanimously passed a resolution to grant GB the status of an interim province on Tuesday.
The resolution was jointly tabled by GB Chief Minister Khalid Khurshid Khan from the PTI, opposition leader Amjad Hussain, PML-N s Ghulam Muhammad, MWM s Muhammad Kazim, JUI-F s Rehmat Khaliq and GB minister Raja Azam Khan.

The resolution said GB should be given the status of an interim constitutional province and representation in the National Assembly and other federal bodies.
Islamabad: The Gilgit-Baltistan legislative assembly has demanded that Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan and the federal government grant the region interim provincial status in a joint resolution adopted on Tuesday. The resolution that reflects the wishes of the local people demanded that the Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) region should be provided representation in the national assembly, senate and other constitutional bodies.
The resolution that was jointly proposed by the government and opposition leaders in the GB assembly suggested that a bill to amend the constitution to declare GB a provisional province of Pakistan should be passed by the parliament. The amendments should “not affect Pakistan’s principle stand on Kashmir issue” and should be in accordance with the UN resolutions to respect the wishes of the people of the GB, it stated.
