(Enterprise photo â Elizabeth Izzo) LAKE PLACID A months-long review process for the town of North Elba’s largest proposed housing complex in some time may be coming to a close. The Lake Placid-North Elba Joint Review Board is expected to vote next week on whether to approve local developer Joseph Barile’s plans to build The Peaks at Lake Placid, a 355-unit housing complex at the former W. Alton Jones Cell Science Center property on Barn Road.
‘Strong demand’ remains for accessible housing in Connecticut

It’s not something people think about until they’re there. But many in wheelchairs face accessibility issues wherever they go, particularly when it comes to housing.
There’s walk-ups without elevator access. Narrow door frames you can’t fit your chair through. Carpeting that makes it hard to move your chair around.
Between July 1, 2019 and June 30, 2020, the Connecticut Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities had over 100 housing complaints filed with them. Of these, 52 were related to physical disability while another seven were related to guide dog access.

(Photo provided) LAKE PLACID The state Adirondack Park Agency board unanimously approved a project for a supposedly affordable housing complex on Wesvalley Road at its monthly meeting Thursday. MacKenzie Outlook is a proposed apartment building to be constructed by Ardsley-based Regan Development, with monthly rental rates expected to be in the range of $691 to $996 per month. This project is on land classified as hamlet the most lenient APA category but APA jurisdiction was triggered for several reasons.
