is there a meeting with president biden on the books yet? no, not at this time. we re looking forward to hearing what the president says in philadelphia today. what s your reaction, i guess, to the criticism that, one, this is a political stunt and, two, that this group of texas democrats are delaying the inevitable? back in 2003, as priscilla mentioned, democrats protested that gop redistricting plan, but republicans eventually passed that redistricting plan. when you go back to texas at some point, you ll go back to a legislature run by republicans who are intent on passing these restrictive voting laws. look, all that is exactly right. that is a key part of our message here. we have a finite amount of time to pass strong federal voting rights legislation to stop what s going to happen in texas if there s not federal laws in place.

Capitol Fax.com - Your Illinois News Radar » Republican legislative leaders file federal suit to block Democratic remap based on population estimates

Filed in the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois… Plaintiffs bring this lawsuit to protect the fundamental rights of Illinois voters and to invalidate the state legislative redistricting plan passed by the Illinois General Assembly on May 28, 2021 and signed into law by Governor Pritzker on June 4, 2021 (the “Redistricting Plan” or “Plan”). In its zeal to rush a plan through the legislature, the General Assembly drew the legislative districts in the Plan using population estimates derived from a survey rather than waiting a few months for the U.S. Census Bureau (the “Census Bureau” or “Bureau”) to provide redistricting data containing official population counts from the 2020 decennial census. Plaintiffs seek a declaration that the Plan is unconstitutional, invalid, and thus void ab initio. Plaintiffs also seek an order directing Defendants Emanuel Christopher Welch and Don Harmon to appoint members to a bipartisan redistricting commission (“

i have colleagues that have been so supportive, so generous of all backgrounds wanting to see america be better. i hope that s what we do. the president also issued a rather stark warning about the assault on voting rights here in the united states. what would these texas proposed restrictions mean for your constituents if they were, in fact, to become law as governor abbott is promising? let me have some breaking news here. this district that i live in, which is a district that has never been able to be a because of republicans denying the right to vote, skewing the redistricting plan. so we ve had to rely on the voting rights bill to be able to keep this district which allows people to choose a penrson of their choosing.

redrawing the state congressional districts to ensure republican domination. in the nearly 200 paeupbl opinion, the judge writes that state lawmakers have shown both an intent to subordinate the interest of nonrepublican voters and entrench republican candidates in power. all with the effect of controlling electoral outcomes to continue a 10-3 republican control of congressional seats. the report given the state s general assembly until january 24 to come up with a new redistricting plan. republicans are vowing to appeal the decision to the supreme court. the high court is already facing two other challenges on jerry mannedering dealing with state legislature voting maps in wisconsin and maryland but this case is the first time a federal court blocked a congressional app because of partisan favoritism. in 2016, republicans openly stated the new map was drawn to their advantage. that s a practice that both parties have been doing in one form or another for generations. so this ruling al

and publicly in communities of low wealth and 25% african-american, make your wealth off of people, pay them low wages, and then, in turn, use that power to push and promote policies that are adverse to their lives and diametrically opposed to their future is just untenable. what we have seen with art pope, you listed all those numbers $50 million over the last decade, $3.5 million since 2010 through 2012, millions of dollars, either him or his family or groups that he influences used to promote the most extreme policies. and you know, you mentioned about the 2010 takeover, but he actually was a part of the redistricting plan that led to that takeover which produced the most race-based redistricting plan we ve seen since the 19th century. rachel, everywhere we look, whether it s denying unemployment to 170,000 people or medicaid expanded to 500,000
