Christine Ohlman, known as the Beehive Queen for her mile-high teased and lacquered blond hair, began her recording career at age 16 with a New Haven group called Black Band, and she hasn’t stopped singing and writing songs since.
Ohlman tours relentlessly with her band Rebel Montez (Cliff Goodwin, Lorne Entress, and Michael Colbath). “I love traveling and staying in historic hotels,” Ohlman said. “We are touring two or three weeks at a time.”

The CHIRP summer concerts in Ballard Park has two fun shows this week, starting with Tuba Skinny on Tuesday. Formed in 2009, Tuba Skinny has steadily evolved from a loose collection of street musicians into a solid ensemble, dedicated to bringing the traditional New Orleans sound to audiences around the world. Drawing on a wide range of musical influences, from spirituals to Depression-era blues, from ragtime to traditional jazz, their sound evokes the rich musical heritage of their New Orleans home. The band has gained a loyal following through their distinctive sound, their commitment to reviving long-lost songs, and their barnstorming live performances.
