The Mangaluru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) installed two CCTV cameras each on the two parallel bridges built across the Netravathi on the National Highway 66 on Wednesday.
With several people ending their lives by jumping from the bridge, the MUDA recently finished fencing either sides of the two bridges.
According to Akbar Pasha, Assistant Executive Engineer, MUDA, each of the CCTV cameras has a range of 500 metres. The CCTV cameras have been installed in a way to catch the movement on each of the two 1 km bridges. These CCTV cameras are connected to police wireless control system at Kankanady Police Station. The MUDA has spent ₹5 lakh for the installation, he said.

It was revived 13 years ago, but is now filled with silt
The Mangaluru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) on Wednesday launched the work of rejuvenating Kadri Kaibattalu pond and the nearby Jogimath pond under its lake rejuvenation programme.
The pond in Kadri Kaibattalu, which was revived 13 years ago by the residents at Doctors Colony, is now filled with silt and muddy water.

This is nearly four years after works were taken up
Nearly four years since taking up the works of developing the Bairadi Kere, a waterbody off the busy Mangaluru-Bengaluru national highway in the city, Minister for Environment, Ecology and Tourism C.P. Yogeshwar on Friday laid the foundation stone to complete the pending works related to the lake development.
It was in May 2017 that the Mangaluru Urban Development Authority and the Department of Minor Irrigation took up the works of developing the lake on the “Pond-Park” concept at a cost of ₹ 3.3 crore. Apart from building retaining walls, the other works taken up included dredging, building a jogging track, a garden, and a small swimming pool.
