The House is poised to essentially repeal ‘Felonies First,’ a court reform program that defense attorneys and some prosecutors say failed on its promise to resolve serious criminal cases more quickly for defendants and victims.
Lawmakers considering a bill that would allow arraignments for felony level criminal cases and probable cause hearings to take place in circuit court, reversing a program called Felonies First that was intended to streamline serious cases by skipping.
CONWAY â Carroll County Attorney Michaela Andruzzi on Tuesday filed charges of special felony aggravated felonious sexual assault and misdemeanor sexual assault against a Jackson teen.
The Conway Police Department log from Feb. 26-March 1 shows that Riley Hayes, 18, of Jackson was charged with felonious sexual assault when the victim was physically helpless and that the age difference between Hayes and the alleged victim is less than three years.
The log indicates Hayes was arrested at the Conway Police Station on Feb. 26 just before 4 p.m. Carroll County Superior Court paperwork shows Hayes turned 18 the day before the arrest, and the date of alleged offense was Oct. 17, 2020. Hayes was released on personal recognizance.
Mavern House Nursing Home in Shaw was sold to Welford Healthcare. Brother and sister team, Jill James and John Pearson, previously owned the Corsham Road home for more than 13 years. The pair decided to sell to retire from the care sector and pursue alternative business ventures. Welford Healthcare owns several care homes. Spokesman Peter Madden said: “We are delighted to welcome Mavern into the group, and we look forward to learning from the special culture of this home.” This popular nursing home is situated in a prime location between Corsham and Melksham, and enjoys a pleasant setting within its own grounds away from the main road and the open countryside.
