Survey: Local Hospitality Businesses Feel Improvement In Economic Recovery

Courtesy of Pixabay A new survey on business activity in New York, northern New Jersey and southwestern Connecticut shows that restaurant and hospitality business owners are feeling better about where the economic recovery is headed. Rich Deitz is senior economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. He said the respondents to their survey indicated that business activity has been growing at a fast pace. “They’re seeing the business environment improving; there’s also been some significant increases in employment, even in the retail sector, and in leisure and hospitality, sectors that have been extremely hard during the pandemic, Deitz said.

Journalism association calls on governor to reopen press conferences, events to the press | News, Sports, Jobs

Journalists Association of New York The Journalists Association of New York, a nonprofit organization that advocates for radio, television and print journalists from dozens of news media organizations and colleges throughout New York state, is calling on Gov. Andrew Cuomo to immediately cease his recent practice of closing all of his public appearances to the press. This practice is an affront to the public that the governor serves; that public is represented by journalists when they are covering the activities of elected officials. Since allegations of sexual misconduct became public in late February, the governor has held numerous public events in which he has made announcements around the state, but he has refused to allow journalists to attend any of them. The effect has been that the governor has not had to answer questions from journalists in person.

Bello received call from state vaccine 'czar' gauging his support for Cuomo

Monroe County Executive Adam Bello. Monroe County Executive Adam Bello has acknowledged that he received a call from the state s COVID-19 vaccine czar, Larry Schwartz, who wanted to gauge his support for Gov. Andrew Cuomo, whom several former aides are accusing of sexual harassment or exhibiting sexist and patronizing behavior. Bello said he pointed Schwartz to a March 7 statement he made calling for a thorough investigation of the governor. That was the end of the conversation, Bello said in a written statement Monday. At no time did I feel any pressure and the topic of vaccines never came up. In the statement he released Monday, Bello also called on Cuomo to resign:
