On February 4, the nation looked on in horror as the body of 23-year-old court clerk Andrea Bharatt was found down a precipice, off a lonely stretch of road in the Heights of Aripo.
The discovery of Bharatt’s body marked the end of a six-day search and pleas by the authorities for the public to come forward with information on where she might be.

THE EDITOR: WPC Katina Williams has renewed my confidence in the police. Her act of gallantry in comforting murder victim Andrea Bharatt’s father is commendable. On that ill-fated day, Randolph Bharatt walked a path of uncertainty but thankfully was not alone.
The recent happenings cause us to wonder if paths we cross daily may be the unknown valley of the shadow of unlawful death, robbery, rape, despair and violence. Such ills are plaguing our land and there is great difficulty seeing them unfold.
Could you imagine how many families relive the nightmare of seeing images of their murdered beloved? It is indeed troubling. Our hearts break too. We are pained. Our hearts break for Sean Luke, Leah Lammy, Tecia Henry, Hope Arismandez, Amy Annamunthodo, Akeil Chambers, Shannon Banfield and Andrea Bharatt. Their voices were silenced.

“I hope everyone stay out and stay up and fight for women in this country.”
These were the words of Randolph Bharatt, father of kidnap and murder victim Andrea Bharatt, as he addressed a crowd of hundreds gathered at Eddie Hart Grounds, Tacarigua on the evening of funeral.
Bharatt thanked those who came out and said he was overwhelmed by the numbers of people.
“I’m thankful to see all these people, I never expected to see all this, it is overwhelming. This is history in Trinidad and Tobago. And this is for Trinidad, and the world, this is the beginning.”

Beware political Jezebels
Marvin Gonzales -
BOTH Government and Opposition MPs spoke about the murder of Andrea Bharatt during the sitting on Friday in the House of Representatives. However, they used the opportunity to question each other’s general intent on dealing with crime, during debate on the Evidence (Amendment) Bill.
Public Utilities Minister and Lopinot/Bon Air West MP Marvin Gonzales went a step further during his contribution to the debate by warning those who are protesting Bharatt’s murder and the murder of other women and children, to beware of political “Jezebels” in their midst.
“This country was under a dark cloud of mourning for the death of one our our daughters Andrea Bharatt. In my case, Andrea was my constituent. I, over the last week or so took the opportunity to visit her family and had some conversations with her dad (Randolph Bharatt.)
