State officials say they had to step in after a complaint in January that the safety and health of people housed at the Ramsey County jail are at risk.
Ramsey County officials will meet on Monday to find ways to fix overcrowding in the adult detention center, following orders from the Department of Corrections.
The jail can request reconsideration of the order, but any such request does not stay the order to lower the capacity of the facility, according to the letter.
