Strikes in the last 15 minutes along route 40, the Atlantic City expressway and again during the rush hour youre dealing with a wall of water that initially comes down at rates of between three and 4inches per hour, so it is blinding rain and as we head down to the south, were also dealing with some pretty intense storms stretching through dover as well and you can see those rainfall rates an additional two to 4 inches of rain there and, again, this is where we have the most intense severe storms at the present time, over 150 or so lightning strikes from millville to dover just in the last 15 minutes. In addition to again the severe storms were dealing with, a lot of water on the roadways. Meteorologist Melissa Magee has more on that story and some of the further guidances across much of the area. Powerlines and lightning sparks fires. Tonight the cleanup is under way. Im ukee washington. And im jessica dean. Authorities in Chester County say five homes were struck by lightning. This one of the homes believed to be hit. Since there are no fire hydrants in that area, firefighters had to get water from ponds and water tankers were called in to help. The owners were away at the time. A house sitter escaped unharmed. Also in Chester County heavy winds knocked over trees and powerlines. This was the scene in devon. Lauren casey has a closer look at where the storms hit hardest. We had numerous storm reports. You can see all of these symbols indicating that tree kind of falling over the house, that is indicative of wind damage, whether that be downed powerlines, downed trees or structural damage. You can see how many we had when those severe storms came rolling through this afternoon or evening, we saw a few homes hit by lightning unfortunately in Chester County as well as ocean count
Precipitation sliding up to the north and east and linking with a cold front coming in from pittsburgh and the two will be merging here as we get towards the end of the week and the beginning of the weekend. As these goes the common rain and heavy winds are tomorrow morning and youll see tropical downpours and feel like a steam bath out there as well. And that moves on and its more scattered in friday afternoon. The take away for friday going into saturday is the tropical humidity its down right uncomfortable and depending on whether you are hit by one of these heavy downpours, youll see a half inch and some areas more than 3 inches of rain and if you get hit by one of those downpours and get a training affect. Repossess the minivan and searched the vehicle and had no idea there was a 7yearold girl asleep in the backseat. The girl was in the third row of the minivan underneath a blanket laying down with what looked to be like a box under a blanket or something. Police say that the child 26yearold mother works as a Delivery Driver at the dominoes and went inside at the end of her shift leaving the child in the van. And when he pull add way she could hear screams from the mother and others and that happens when he repossesses cars. That happens all the time. He was stopped by a bike office that searched the van from outside and saw nothing. Then at 50th and woodland he met up with police again and this time the officer spotted the girls leg. And i guess he saw a piece of clothing and looked really hard and said the kid is right there underneath the blanket. Dominos in West Philadelphia pulled her mini van up in front of the restaurant and went inside. Leaving her sevenyearold daughter asleep under a blanket in the back seat. Shes there for work. Her car is outside. Apparently the car is double parked and while shes inside. Reporter it turns out the mothers van had just been legally repossessed and was being towed away by the towing coach the tow truck driver had no idea there was a child in the back seat. He does a visual inspection and doesnt see anything or any signs of any human inside the vehicle. I could visually see right through the back of the car and there was no, new york city occupants of the vehicle. Reporter mom called police to report an abduction a few minutes later, officers pulled over the tow truck and the van at 50 and wood land the child was asleep and unharmed.
