GB Assembly passes unanimous resolution to grant Gilgit-Baltistan status of interim province Pakistan Tue, Mar 09, 2021 The Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly unanimously passed a resolution to grant GB the status of an interim province on Tuesday. The resolution was jointly tabled by GB Chief Minister Khalid Khurshid Khan from the PTI, opposition leader Amjad Hussain, PML-N s Ghulam Muhammad, MWM s Muhammad Kazim, JUI-F s Rehmat Khaliq and GB minister Raja Azam Khan. It says Pakistan s principled position in light of UN resolutions on the Kashmir issue must be upheld in the amendment The resolution said GB should be given the status of an interim constitutional province and representation in the National Assembly and other federal bodies.

Gilgit-Baltistan demands interim provincial status

Islamabad: The Gilgit-Baltistan legislative assembly has demanded that Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan and the federal government grant the region interim provincial status in a joint resolution adopted on Tuesday. The resolution that reflects the wishes of the local people demanded that the Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) region should be provided representation in the national assembly, senate and other constitutional bodies. The resolution that was jointly proposed by the government and opposition leaders in the GB assembly suggested that a bill to amend the constitution to declare GB a provisional province of Pakistan should be passed by the parliament. The amendments should “not affect Pakistan’s principle stand on Kashmir issue” and should be in accordance with the UN resolutions to respect the wishes of the people of the GB, it stated.

The resolution was jointly tabled by GB Chief Minister Khalid Khurshid Khan from the PTI, opposition leader Amjad Hussain Advocate from the PPP, PML-N s Ghulam Muhammad, MWM member Muhammad Kazim, JUI-F s Rehmat Khaliq and GB minister Raja Azam Khan. The resolution stated that a bill to amend the Constitution to declare GB a provisional province of Pakistan should be passed by Parliament without causing any damage to the country s stance on the Kashmir issue.

Photo courtesy Facebook/File GILGIT: The Gilgit-Baltistan government has formed a seven-member parliamentary committee to make recommendations for the proposed constitutional and administrative reforms in the region. Chief Minister Khalid Khurshid Khan will head the committee while opposition leader in GB Assembly Advocate Amjad Hussain of PPP, Member GB Assembly Ghulam Mohammad of PML-N, Minister Mohammad Kazim Masem of MWM, Member GB Assembly Haji Rehmat Khaliq of JUI-F, Minister Abbaidullah Baig and Minister Raja Azam Khan of PTI will be members of the committee. The main task of the parliamentary committee is to consult with leaders of all parliamentary parties in GB and take them into confidence regarding bringing administrative and political reforms in the region and formulate a joint mechanism.
