LGBTQI advocacy groups have welcomed the decision by local councils and the Victorian Parliament to fly the Pride flag as "incredible", in light of far-right groups recently targeting councillors and council staff over drag storytime events.
West Wimmera Shire Council was among those who raised the rainbow flag for the first time. In April, the council had voted down a motion to fly the flag to mark IDAHOBIT this year, but reversed the decision following a public backlash.
