Suspected chimney fire destroys Dexter-area home Updated Jan 12, 2021; WASHTENAW COUNTY, MI – A Dexter-area home was destroyed Monday night when a fire broke out in the residence and quickly spread. Fire crews were called to the home in the 9000 block of Hermitage Way near Strawberry Lake Road in northern Webster Township at 8:33 p.m. Jan. 11, according to the Dexter Area Fire Department. Crews arrived to find heavy flames coming from the home and called in additional support and tanker trucks as there was no fire hydrants in the area, officials said. Firefighters were on scene for several hours putting the fire out, which was made more difficult by the icy conditions on the long, unpaved private road leading to the home.
