COLOMBO (News 1st): A 43-year-old COVID-19 patient had left the Punani COVID-19 treatment facility on Tuesday (Jan. 19) without authorization, Sri Lanka Police said on Wednesday (Jan. 20).
“43-year-old Shelton Premaratne of No. 649B, Andagala, Eheliyagoda has escaped from the Punani Treatment Centre, which is located in the Valaichchenai Police area, yesterday evening at 7:30 pm,” Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana said.
According to the Deputy Police Chief, the patient had tested positive for COVID-19 on the 13th of January in Kolonnawa, where he was transferred to the Treatment Centre on the 17th of January.

The Divulapitiya, Peliyagoda, and Prisons COVID-19 clusters yesterday expanded to 38,979 patients, with the detection of 639 COVID-19 positive persons.
According to a statement issued by the Department of Government Information, 636 persons among those who tested positive yesterday were associates of the Peliyagoda COVID-19 cluster.
The patients detected yesterday brought the total number of patients detected in the island to 42,702. The count includes 1,680 Sri Lanka returnees from abroad, 950 Navy personnel and their contacts, and 651 persons linked to the Kandakadu cluster.
The Public Health Inspectors Union yesterday warned of sub clusters emerging in some other provinces as there were COVID-19 patients who were detected there, from those who had travelled out of the Western Province during the festive season.
PHI Union Secretary Mahesh Balasuriya told the Daily Mirror that they had received reports of patients being detected from the Central Province, Eastern Province and North Western Province, and these were patients who had travelled during the holiday season from the Colombo district. some who had travelled were the first contacts who had tested positive. The detection of 592 COVID-19 patients yesterday brought the country’s total number of COVID-19 patients to 39,235.
According to the Department of Government Information, 570 associates of the Peliyagoda cluster, four overseas arrivals, and 18 persons linked to the Prisons cluster tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday.
The triple clusters that emerged from Divulapitiya, Peliyagoda and Prisons have thus increased to 35,548 patients.
The total count also includes 1,644 Sri Lankan overseas returnees, 950 Navy personnel and their contacts, 651 persons linked to the Kandakadu cluster, and 126 foreigners.

According to the Department of Government Information, patients detected yesterday include 364 associates of the Peliyagoda COVID-19 cluster.
The total number of patients detected in the island is 37,631, and the patients include 1,632 Sri Lankan returnees from abroad, 950 Navy personnel and their close contacts, 651 persons linked to the Kandakadu cluster and 126 foreigners.
