KOTA KINABALU: Scientists are trying to get to the bottom of why a skin infection is afflicting a shark species in Sabah’s east coast. A team of Universiti Malaysia Sabah researchers and their counterparts from Sabah Parks are now at the diving paradise of Pulau Sipadan, near Semporna, to carry out the probe. Sabah Parks education division chief Nasrulhakim Maidin told FMT that a preliminary report on the team’s findings was expected in early May. Diver Jason Isley of Scubazoo, a Sabah-based international filming service provider, posted photos on his social media of an infected whitetip shark he photographed near Sipadan in early April.

Decoding Asean's deliberate silence over Myanmar

SHARE Much has been said and written about the global response to the unfolding crisis in Myanmar, where the long-dominant military staged a coup earlier this month. Experts have discussed the deep influence of neighbouring China, an important economic partner, and the likely impact of American sanctions on the strategic calculus of the South-East Asian nation s junta. Others have focused on the sophisticated way the military brass orchestrated its coup against Aung San Suu Kyi s democratically elected government, with which it had shared power for half a decade. Somewhat missing in the discussions, though, has been the role of Myanmar s influential neighbours and, more broadly, the Association of South-East Asian Nations (Asean), in legitimising the junta’s behind-the-scenes rule and atrocities in recent decades.

Published on: Sunday, January 03, 2021 By: Shavez Cheema Text Size: Besides swimming, pangolins also have the ability to climb rocks. BEING part of the leadership of various wildlife rescues in Borneo either physically leading them or having a network of rescuers in different cities and towns in Borneo, we advise and guide them the best way to release them.  In Sabah, for example, we mostly collaborate with the Wildlife Rescue Unit and give them the information leading to rescues whenever appropriate. We have successfully conducted 137 rescues on Borneo with recorded details and photographs of each operation up to date at November 2020 (details available on request).
