Pandemic-inspired pet ownership is on the rise, and Pueblo has been named the 23rd best pet city in the country.
During the COVID-19 outbreak, social distancing from humans has likely persuaded people to turn to pets for companionship. In Pueblo, especially during the early stay-at-home orders of March and April, “we had a really high number of adoptions,” said Dr. Patti Canchola, who has been a Pueblo veterinarian for 31 years.
Pandemic pets have been humans’ emotional support during times of isolation.
“We slumber together, sleep together and snack together, but we also are now figuring out we should be exercising together. During COVID, I did see a lot more dogs out for a walk it forces people to get outside,” Canchola said.
