Myths exist and then to unpack them a little bit and think more about the reality of the experience, right . I want to start first by talking about how this connects to the first World War overall. So its not just america that has these myths, but even this sense of how we understand the first World War to begin with. And we think of the kind of general narrative that we attach to it. One of the most common narratives is that World War i was a senseless slaughter. Right . I want to talk a little bit about what ive been doing, but i also want to put it in the perspective of childhood because this semester we spent a lot of time thinking about each life stage. And its expectations, but we havent done a lot yet to try to put it together. So i thought id try to do that heavy lifting and we talk about it in terms of the american revolution. So the first thing a lot of people who havent had this class say is they didnt even think about age at all. Maybe youre just making something up that we care about today. That they didnt care about.
