Step out of your time and culture and your age and your race and your gender and imagine what life is like in some other era in some other culture. Theres a whole theory of criticism around that. Is that kind of rationale ever been used to select literature . Thats not racist, its just an active imagination. Has that argument ever been used to select literature and if not, why not . Has the argument ever been put forward to select books based on the imaginative distance from the here and now, speaking of fantasy literature is maybe the biggest embodiment of that.
