Sir John Curtice: SNP 'not being helped' by Alba Party in Highlands and Islands regional list

© Allan Milligan Professor Sir John Curtice. Sir John Curtice claims the SNP are “not being helped” in a key regional seat where around two per cent of votes are thought to have been cast for Alex Salmond’s Alba Party. The polling expert told BBC Good Morning Scotland that provided they do not lose any seats, there are three “crucial seats” the SNP need in order to get an overall majority, including a list seat in the Highlands and Islands region. But he said they were “not being helped by the two per cent of the vote that is going to Alba” in the region.

Scottish independence 'inevitable' as Yes parties on course for majority

By Angus Cochrane and Laura Webster Younger Scots are overwhelmingly in favour of independence INDEPENDENCE is “inevitable” – that’s the conclusion drawn by a major Yes organisation after it commissioned a new poll on the constitutional question. The Believe in Scotland survey, carried out by Panelbase, found 51% of Scots back independence, while 49% are opposed once undecided respondents were excluded. The poll also predicts a majority for pro-independence parties, with the SNP on course to win 63 seats, the Greens 10 and Alba five. A total of 78 and a majority of 27 seats. It is the latest in a series of polls in the last few weeks to record a narrow Yes lead after a slight dip in support for independence at the start of the year. Overall, support among men and women mirrored the 51%-49% split in the new study.

The Scottish Harassment committee is looking into whether Nicola Sturgeon misled the Court of Session, Scotland’s highest court, over when she first heard of Alex Salmond’s sexual harassment allegations. In doing so, she would have also misled the Scottish Parliament over the dates, a move which would break ministerial code. Professor John Curtice says the SNP is split between support for Ms Sturgeon, who believes she is telling the truth, or Mr Salmond, who they believe is being hard done by.

Great expectations: Would big SNP election victory spring indyref2 trap for Nicola Sturgeon? There’s an image of a donkey being led by a carrot dangling from the end of a stick doing the rounds on social media. © PRESS AND JOURNAL How does the SNP manage independence aspirations? There’s an image of a donkey being led by a carrot dangling from the end of a stick doing the rounds on social media. Typically, it is shared by those of a hardline Unionist persuasion to taunt the SNP. The carrot represents Nicola Sturgeon’s yet-to-be-fulfilled promises of a second independence referendum and the donkey represents her foot soldiers.
