The Union Budget has laid a strong foundation to increase the resilience of the health sector in the post-COVID-19 era
Health care has taken centre stage due to an unfortunate novel coronavirus pandemic that has devastated lives and livelihoods across the globe. Although India has performed relatively better in its COVID-19 management, even compared to countries with highly developed health systems, the impact of the outbreak on society and the economy is undeniable. Against this backdrop, the Union Budget 2021–22 was an eagerly awaited one and the announcements for the health sector, in particular, have been widely discussed.
Hon’ble Speaker,
I present the Budget for the year 2021-2022.
1. Honourable Speaker, the preparation of this Budget was undertaken in circumstances like never before. We knew of calamities that have affected a country or a region within a country, but what we have endured with COVID-19 through 2020 is sui generis.
2. When I presented the Budget 2020-21, we could not have imagined that the global economy, already in throes of a slowdown, would be pushed into an unprecedented contraction.
3. We could not have also imagined then that our people as those in other countries would have to endure the loss of near and dear ones and suffer hardships brought about due to a health crisis.

Budget 2021: Why manufacturing industry expects more incentives this time
Budget 2021 provides an opportunity to harness the capabilities required to implement transformative reforms and build upon the foundations integral for the manufacturing sector to contribute to 25% of the country s GDP by 2025
The manufacturing sector optimistically awaits the announcements in what is deemed to be a budget like never before
Economic growth in India over the years has been propelled by growth in the services sector. Today, the sector contributes the highest to India s GDP. In contrast, the manufacturing sector, despite its higher multiplier effect on employment and growth, has not been able to serve as a powerhouse for the country s growth engines.
