Diamond Princess cruise COVID quarantine shown in 'The Last Cruise'

USA TODAY As someone who spent most of the past year covering the cruise industry and its trials amid the COVID-19 pandemic, I took a particular interest in The Last Cruise,  one of the first documentaries to be released about the Diamond Princess cruise ship. The 40-minute film (★★★ out of four; will air on HBO March 30 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT and will be available to stream on HBO Max), paints an intimate picture of what happened on Princess Cruises Diamond Princess cruise ship, which was quarantined off Yokohama, Japan, early in February 2020 after a former passenger tested positive for COVID-19. The case led to an outbreak of more than 700 cases and more than a dozen deaths.

Should you cancel that cruise you bought? Don't panic. You don't have many choices anyway

Should you cancel that cruise you bought? Don t panic. You don t have many choices anyway Sun Sentinel 3/10/2021 By Ron Hurtibise, Sun Sentinel © Joe Cavaretta/Sun Sentinel/TNS Consumers concerned about the prospects of getting infected with the coronavirus might be considering canceling their cruises. In retrospect, maybe buying a cruise wasn’t the best choice for a stress-free vacation this year. Don’t be too hard on yourself. When you decided a year ago to spend hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars on a cruise, you had no way of knowing that coronavirus would become such a major health concern.

Norwegian Cruise Line will require crew members to get the COVID-19 vaccine before boarding as sailings continue to be pushed back

Norwegian Cruise Line will require crew members to get the COVID-19 vaccine before boarding as sailings continue to be pushed back bchang@businessinsider.com (Brittany Chang) © Alan Diaz/Associated Press Norwegian Cruise Line s Norwegian Sky ship. Alan Diaz/Associated Press Norwegian Cruise Line and its Regent Seven Seas Cruises will require crew members to get the vaccine. UK cruise line Saga recently announced it would require all passengers to receive the vaccine. It s just the latest sign that cruise sailings won t be departing any time soon. Following this, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced - and later extended - its no-sail order as COVID-19 continued to surge across the US. And after months of waiting, in October 2020, the CDC replaced its pause button on all sailing trips with the Framework for Conditional Sailing Order, a list of strict protocols needed for cruise lines to continue sailing again.

UK cruise liner to require all passengers be vaccinated

UK cruise liner to require all passengers be vaccinated ABCNews Saga Cruises, a U.K.-based cruise operator, announced it was requiring all passengers to have received the COVID-19 vaccine before embarking on a trip. The cruise industry as a whole has grappled with multiple deadly outbreaks of the virus aboard ships since February 2020, and many cruise liners were forced to halt operations entirely amid the pandemic. Saga Cruises vaccine requirement appears to be a first for major cruise operators. The company said it is moving the restart date for its cruises to May to allow time for more people to receive the vaccine.
