MALAYSIA recorded 125 new cases of the 2019 novel coronavirus (Covid-19) yesterday, most of which were linked to the recent “tabligh” gathering at the Sri Petaling mosque in Kuala Lumpur attended by more than 16,000 people from several countries. The new cases bring the total number of infections in the country to 553, making Malaysia the worst hit South-East Asian country to date, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba said. “According to preliminary investigations, out of the 125 new cases reported yesterday, a total of 95 positive Covid-19 cases were related to the religious assembly cluster at the Jamek Mosque at Sri Petaling,” he said in a press conference yesterday. As of Monday, 12 cases are critically ill in intensive care and in need of respiratory assistance, up from nine the day before.
